Cheese and Chilli Sticks

Can be made with these products:


  • 175g (6oz) plain flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 75g (3oz) butter, cut into pieces
  • 50g (2oz) Cheddar or Emmental cheese, grated
  • 5ml (1 tsp) mild chilli powder
  • 1 egg
  • beaten egg, to glaze
  • sesame seeds and poppy seeds, to sprinkle

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4. Lightly grease two baking sheets. Place the flour, salt and butter in the Kenwood Bowl and mix with the K Beater at minimum speed until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  • Add the cheese and chilli powder and continue mixing until combined. Add the egg and mix to a smooth dough.
  • On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough into an oblong 12.5cm (5 inches) wide and about 7mm (¼ inch) thick. Cut in half and brush with egg glaze. Sprinkle one half with sesame seeds and the other with poppy seeds.
  • Cut into sticks 1.2cm (½ inch) wide. Place on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden. Leave to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack.
