Simple Slow Cooked Chana Masala

Serve this vegetarian curry with rice as a main or on its own as a side.


  • Vegetable oil                           2 tbsp
  • Onion                                       150 g
  • Garlic clove                             3
  • Ginger                                     1 tbsp
  • Ground cumin                         1 tsp
  • Ground coriander                    0.5 tsp
  • Garam masala                        2 tsp
  • Tinned chopped tomatoes      400 g
  • Tinned chickpeas                     800 g
  • Tomato passata                      4 tbsp
  • Cayenne pepper                     1 pinch
  • Seasoning                               1 pinch

Before you begin

  • Assemble the Direct Prep attachment with the thick slicing disc, then attach to the CookEasy+ and turn it to position 2.
  • Peel the onion and cut to fit the feed tube.
  • Peel, de-stem and crush the garlic.
  • Mince the ginger.
  • Drain the chickpeas.

Getting started

  • Fit the Stir Tool to the CookEasy+ Bowl.
  • Fit the CookEasy+ Bowl to the machine.

Ready to Cook

Stage 1

  • Add oil into the CookEasy+ bowl.
  • Attach the lid and ensure the Filler cap is NOT fitted. 
  • Set the temperature to 140 ºC, on speed 3 and press the CONTROL Dial.


Stage 2

  • Wait 30 seconds for the CookEasy+ bowl to heat up, then turn the Direct Prep attachment to position 1.
  • Slice onion into the CookEasy+ bowl.
  • Once you have finished move the Direct Prep attachment back to position 2.
  • Cook for 2 minutes, at 120 ºC on speed 3.

Stage 3

  • Add garlic into the bowl.
  • Cook for 1 minute, at 120 ºC on speed 3.

Stage 4

  • Add ginger, cumin, coriander, masala, tomatoes, chickpeas, passata, cayenne, seasoning into the bowl.
  • Cook for 2 hours, at 94ºC on speed 1.

Serve and enjoy.
