Apple and Blackberry Crumble

This dessert is British cooking at it best, unpretentious and great flavours; perfect with a good creamy custard.

Method

  1. Attach the knife blade to the food processor.
  2. Add all the ingredients for the crumble topping into the food processor and pulse until combined.
  3. Take out of the bowl and store in an air tight container.
  4. Peel and core the apples.
  5. Attach the thick slicing disc to the food processor.
  6. Slice the apples in the food processor.
  7. Scatter the apples and blackberries in an oven proof dish.
  8. Add the sugar and mix.
  9. Flatten down with your hands.
  10. Scatter the crumble mix over the top.
  11. Place into a preheated oven set at 180ºC for 45 minutes.

Variation 

Gooseberry and Blackberry Crumble

  1. Put 400g of gooseberries, 200g water and 150g sugar into a saucepan and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Remove to an ovenproof dish and scatter over 100g of blackberries.

Crumble Topping

Use this as your base recipe for any crumble dessert. Simply sprinkle on top of stewed fruits such as apples and blackberries or rhubarb and strawberries bake and serve with custard for a perfect warming pudding
