Why does the lever not lock down into position on my toaster?

The lever will not lock down if the toaster is unplugged and switched off. The lever may also not lock into position if there is debris trapped inside the toaster/carriage.

Please unplug your toaster and ensure it has completely cooled down. Turn the toaster upside down and gently tap/shake to remove any debris.
