Pulled Jackfruit Buns with Honey Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Make your own sweet and spicy Honey Whiskey BBQ sauce to use in this tasty vegetarian dish. We recommended using a smoky honey or even hot honey, but plain runny honey will work just as well. You can store the jackfruit in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.

For the sauce

  • 80 g dark brown sugar

  • 80 g whiskey

  • 100 g soy sauce

  • 80 g ketchup

  • 30 g honey

  • 0.5 Tbsp hot sauce

  • 0.5 Tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 0.5 tsp chipotle chili powder, optional

  • cayenne pepper, as needed

  • 0.5 Tbsp cornflour

  • 0.5 Tbsp water

For the jackfruit filling

  • 500 g tinned jackfruit, drained

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp chilli powder

  • 0.5 Tbsp honey

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 0.5 tsp salt

  • 0.5 tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

Step 1

Making the sauce

Fit the K-Beater.

Add dark brown sugar, whiskey, soy sauce, ketchup, honey, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chipotle powder (if using) and cayenne pepper into the appliance bowl.

Cook for 10 minutes at 100ºC on speed Stir 3 until aromatic.

Add cornflour and water into a clean bowl and mix to combine.

Transfer the cornflour mixture into the appliance bowl.

Cook for 3 minutes at 100ºC on speed Stir 3 until thickened.

Transfer the mixture into a jug and set aside.

Step 2

Making the jackfruit filling

Clean the appliance bowl and fit the K-Beater.

Add jackfruit, paprika, chilli powder, honey, garlic powder, salt and pepper into the appliance bowl.

Cook for 10 minutes at 110ºC on speed Stir 2 until the jackfruit has softened.

Add the BBQ sauce back into the appliance bowl.

Cook for 10 minutes at 100ºC on speed Stir 1 until thickened.

Serve with burger buns and red cabbage slaw.

 

Storage: Store the jackfruit in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
