My Chef Sense will not switch on. What can I try?

The Chef Sense is equipped with a load sensor which will cut off if the ingredients are too heavy. The illuminated dial will flash, and the speed dial will need to be turned to the zero position before restarting your Chef.Reduce the load before restarting. If the head is lifted, the Chef Sense will also go into standby mode and stop functioning. There is no spanner with my Kenwood Chef Sense. How can I adjust the tools?

The bowl tools can be adjusted with one of your own spanners. An adjustable spanner would be ideal, or use one which fits the nut at the top of the spindle correctly.Alternatively one can be purchased for Kenwood Spares using this link. The dough hook will never need adjusting.

Can I buy a plastic bowl for my Chef?

Yes you can.If you have a Chef the part number is AW19659A02, and if you have a Major the part number is AW26538A01. The KVC5000/ KVC6000 Chef Sense requires a different bowl which can be puchased from our spares department.Alternatively the Ice Cream maker attachment includes a plastic bowl.

Can I purchase a splashguard for my A701 or A901?

Regrettably there is no splashguard available for the older Chef models as it was an attachment that was introduced much later on.

Do the Chef accessories fit the Major machines?

All high speed and slow speed attachments can be used on either the Chef or the Major kitchen machines. This includes the blender, mill attachment, food grinder and pasta attachments.  Bowl tools and bowl outlet accessories can only be fitted to their relevant models because the sizes are different.

How do I remove the top outlet cover on my Chef/ Major?

The cover lifts off entirely. There are no hinges or fixings. If your Chef is new it may be a little stiff to remove initially.Simply lever one side with a spatula, spoon or similar and the rest of the outlet cover should release with ease.

I am having difficulty fitting the Flexi Beater into my Chef or Major. All my other tools are fine.

The shaft design has been updated in recent years. It is possible that the shaft on your Flexi Beater is a different design to your other bowl tools. To confirm compare the shaft on this bowl tool to your other bowl tools.If it is different please contact the Customer Experience team via our contact form and they can send you the correct shaft for your Chef or Major. Please ensure you fill in all the information requested to enable us to assist you as quickly as possible.The shaft can be replaced by unscrewing the old one and screwing the replacement into the bowl tool. Adjust the shaft to ensure the beater just touches the bottom of the bowl.

I am missing the wrench from my Chef or Major

The bowl tools can be adjusted with a wrench. An adjustable wrench would be ideal, or use one which fits the nut at the top of the spindle correctly.

I cannot remove the bowl on my Chef or Major. What can I do?

Accepted Answer

Your kitchen machine can deal with very heavy ingredients &ndash; for example bread dough &ndash; and the rotation of these types of ingredient can tighten the bowl into the machine and make it difficult to remove. In these cases extra force in a counterclockwise direction will be needed to remove the bowl. If you regularly make dough we would recommend the bowl is periodically loosened to avoid over tightening.

I require a replacement blender for my Chef or Major

The blenders are compatible with any Chef or Major which was manufactured from around 1976, although they will not fit the A701 or A707 models. The A901/ A907 models are compatible. Your model number can be found on the underside of your Chef or Major. AT358 &ndash; ThermoResistTM Glass (Heatproof) The blender has a 1.5 litre working capacity for cold ingredients and a 1.2 litre capacity for hot ingredients.

Is the spatula heat proof?

Unless you have purchased the Cooking Chef, the spatula is not heat proof and cannot be used in saucepans or with hot liquids.

My Chef tool has turned black

Accepted Answer

This is most likely due to a reaction to dishwasher detergent. Please note that the older non-stick coated attachments are unsuitable for dishwashing. It is possible to remove the black residue and restore the attachment to its original state. As the attachment has been exposed to detergents containing alkaline you need to neutralise it by soaking it in lemon juice or vinegar for 24 hours.

My older Chef has not been used for some time. Will it be okay to use?

This depends for how long, and on the condition of the Chef or Major when it was last used. Without the benefit of inspection it is impossible to say for certain. If you run the motor and it sounds ok, it may be fine, but for very old machine try lower quantities first. Finally, your Chef could be anything up to 65 years old.

What is the difference between a Chef and a Major?

The main difference between the two machines is the size. The Major has a 7 Quarts bowl and the Chef a 5 Quarts bowl. The motor size will also be different for a Major (800 Watts) for a Chef (750 Watts). It is worth noting that the Major is a taller and heavier machine as it can mix larger quantities at one time.

Many of the A901 accessories including the bowl will fit the current Chef range as there has been very little to it over the years. The current accessories will also fit the A901, with the exception of the food processor attachment.

I have an ‘E’ and a number on my Kenwood Cooking Chef. What does it mean?

The error code meanings are as follows:- E:01 - The head of the machine is raised. Set Power to &lsquo;0' and lower the head.- E:02 &ndash; The Cooking Bowl is not fitted correctly. Set the power to zero and realign or refit the bowl.- E:03 - The heat shield is not fitted. Ensure it is secured correctly as the cooking function will not operate if this is not in place.- E:04 - Slow/High Speed Outlet cover not in place. Ensure all covers are fitted.- E:09 - The heat is too hot or a temperature sensor problem. Allow the machine to cool and check sensors are clear from debris.- E:10 &ndash; Overheat or Speed issue &ndash; check air vents are free from obstruction and clean. When clearing an error code always set the speed to &lsquo;0' and retry.In the unlikely event any other "E"" error code appears, please contact a Service Centre."

The right quantity of water to be put in the steamer basket depends on the type of food you are cooking. Vegetables, eggs, poultry and fish will need different quantity of water and timing will be different also.Check the cooking guide available in the istruction manual here attached.

Are my COOKING CHEF PREMIUM accessories compatible with the new COOKING CHEF GOURMET?

Regarding  accessories compatibility, only the AT647 multifunctional bowl supplied with the Cooking Chef Premium is not compatible with the Cooking Chef Gourmet. This is because it does not have an intermediate output. The multifunction bowl KAH647 must be used for the latter. For other accessories, use the KAT002ME adapter for all those that attach to the slow output on the front of the robot. (AT950, AT970,71,72,73,74, AT642,643,644, MGX400, AT910, AT941)."

Why does the Cooking Chef Gourmet turn off after 30 minutes of use?

Please be advised that this operation described is normal. Your Cooking Chef will go into standby mode if it has been connected for more than 30 minutes without being used, press the STAND-BY button once to reset it. In addition, if one of the high or slow speed outlet cover is used, or if the outlet cover isn't put beyond 30 minutes, your Cooking Chef Gourmet will go into standby mode.          "

On using a pre-set programme, COOKING CHEF GOURMET  turns off after 15 minutes. Why is this?

When you select a pre-set programme from the 'Programmes' menu, press the dial to confirm the ones desired, and turn the display dial to select either 'Savoury', 'Sweet', 'Slow Cook' or 'Steam' programmes, and press the button to confirm. The Cooking Chef Goumet display is very userfriendly, you can easily follow the instructions that appear on the display screen. If no action is taken between each phases, Cooking Chef Gourmet will time out after 15 minutes! Tips: we suggest to prepare in advance the ingredients needed for the recipe you want to realize. The Cooking Chef is equipped with a safety device that prevent to use the stand mixer at an higher speed while the unit is using for cooking and the temperature reach over 140F (60C). If temperature cool down lower that limit the unit will be back to the maximum speed.

My Cooking Chef Connect Failed to Connect to the Kenwood World App, What Should I Do?

This may have occurred for several reasons. Check that you have done the following: Make sure your Wi-Fi router is switched on and connected to the internet. Have your appliance plugged in and the On/Off switch in the On position. Have your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and Wi-Fi network password ready (remember, passwords are case sensitive). Make sure your smart device's location settings are turned on (for Android only). Check that your router's security protocols are set to either WPA or WPA2 (see manufacturer's instructions for how to do this). Check that you signed into your Kenwood World account. Check that you have accepted the Apps 'terms and condition'.

Can I switch to a different smartphone/tablet with my Cooking Chef Connect when following via the Kenwood World app?

Yes. As long as you are using the same Kenwood World account, you can switch between smart devices to control your appliance when following a Kenwood World app recipe. Follow these steps: Open the app on the other smart device. Find the recipe you are making. Swipe through to the stage you were on. Continue the recipe. Please note: If the Cooking Chef Connect is in a remotely controlled cooking stage from one of your smart devices, it must first finish this stage before you can take control from a second smart device.

What happens if my Cooking Chef Connect loses power when remotely operating through an app recipe (e.g. accidentally unplugged, power cut)?

​When the appliance regains power and is switched on, it will automatically go into stand-by mode: ● Wait for the appliance to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network (this could take up to 1 minute).● If power was lost during a cooking stage you may need to repeat it, though the time setting can be manually adjusted on the appliance.● If the app displays an error message when you try to continue a recipe, try leaving the recipe, re-entering it, and continuing from where you left off. Important: If food has been left in the bowl for more than 2 hours without power, the food may be unsafe to eat and should be disposed of. If you need any more help, please contact Customer Support for assistance."

However only Kenwood provide a High Speed Outlet that can be used to fit a number of attacments such as a blender or food processor. What is the maxiium temperature of the warming function?

Rather then temperature in degrees, the Kenwoood Chef Patissier XL has 9 warming levels to choose from. Think of it like a hob setting, turn it up for more heat and turn it down for less. It has been carefully designed to work well with common baking tasks such as melting, proving and sabayon, but it will not boil water. Reccommended temparte levels for key tasks can be found here (include table for Warming Setting against Action)"

What are the built in safety features of the appliance?

Your safety is a key priority here at Kenwood so when we are designing your new machine we include many clever elements to help keep you safe when in use. Features on this model include: The motor will only run when the head is properly locked down, preventing accidental activation. The wamring function will only operate when the 7L warming bowl is fitted. If you remove the bowl and leave the appliance powered up a fan will run to cool the warming plate quickly, reducing the amount of time a part of the appliance is hot. The controlling software has been designed so that you cannot unintentionally press the dial to start. When in stir mode the appliance beeps before starting a stir cycle to alert you to move your hands clear. There are other features too - please refer to the Instruction Manual for more information."

All stand mixers will display some movement depending on the quantity and type of food in the bowl, along with the speed being used and the tool type. If your appliance is moving too much we suggest turning the speed down or even processing less at a time.
