I have never made sausages in my multi food grinder before. What tips can you give?

Ask your local butcher for sausage skins - most butchers will be happy to provide these for sale. Use pig/hog skin on the large nozzle and sheep/lamb skin on the small nozzle. Or, instead of using skin, roll the extruded sausages in breadcrumbs or seasoned flour before cooking.If you're using skin, soak it in cold water for 30 minutes first, then open it up with a jet of water. Put your chosen nozzle under a running tap and pull the skin onto the nozzle. Recipes can be found on our website.

Question 3

My Chef Sense will not switch on. What can I try?

Accepted Answer

The Chef Sense is equipped with a load sensor which will cut off if the ingredients are too heavy. The illuminated dial will flash, and the speed dial will need to be turned to the zero position before restarting your Chef. Reduce the load before restarting. If the head is lifted, the Chef Sense will also go into standby mode and stop functioning. Lower the head and reset the speed to zero, and the Chef can be restarted. All of the attachment outlets are working at the same time. Is this normal?

Accepted Answer

All of the outlets will operate at the same time, and this is normal. For example, when using the high speed outlet the bowl tools will turn. Please ensure the bowl has been removed before switching your machine on when using the slow, medium or high speed outlets. It is important to note that only one attachment should be used at any one time on a Kenwood kitchen machine. Attempts to use more than one attachment could damage your machine.

Can I buy a plastic bowl for my Chef?

Yes you can. If you have a Chef the part number is AW19659A02, and if you have a Major the part number is AW26538A01. The KVC5000/ KVC6000 Chef Sense requires a different bowl which can be puchased from our spares department. Alternatively the Ice Cream maker attachmenti ncludes a plastic bowl.

How do I remove the top outlet cover on my Chef/ Major?

The cover lifts off entirely. There are no hinges or fixings. If your Chef is new it may be a little stiff to remove initially. Simply lever one side with a spatula, spoon or similar and the rest of the outlet cover should release with ease.

I am missing the wrench from my Chef or Major

The bowl tools can be adjusted with a wrench. An adjustable wrench would be ideal, or use one which fits the nut at the top of the spindle correctly.

My Kitchen machine requires new feet. Can I fit them myself?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A set of new feet can be purchased from our websiteThe oldones can be removed by carefully pulling them vertically outwards with a pair of pliers or similar. The new feet can then be push-fitted into the kitchen machine.

My Chef tool has turned black

Accepted Answer

This is most likely due to a reaction to dishwasher detergent. Please note that the older non-stick coated attachments are unsuitable for dishwashing. It is possible to remove the black residue and restore the attachment to its original state. As the attachment has been exposed to detergents containing alkaline you need to neutralise it by soaking it in lemon juice or vinegar for 24 hours.

My dough hook/ K beater is stuck. How can I remove it?

The tool may have been incorrectly attached before mixing. Lift the head and gently turn the attachment from the bottom end, twisting in a clockwise direction. It is important not to use forceful pressure.

Question 13

My K-Beater does not reach the sides of the bowl when mixing.

Accepted Answer

The K-Beater will not scrape the sides of the bowl down and should never touch the sides. Doing so could cause damage to both the bowl and the attachment. Either increase the speed slightly, or scrape the mixture down halfway through mixing with a spatula or similar tool.

My older Chef has not been used for some time. Will it be okay to use?

Accepted Answer

This depends for how long, and on the condition of the Chef or Major when it was last used. Without the benefit of inspection it is impossible to say for certain. If you run the motor and it sounds ok, it may be fine, but for very old machines try lower quantities first. Finally, your Chef could be anything up to 65 years old.

The K-Beater and Dough Hook are both tucked into the polystyrene within the product packaging. Please lift the polystyrene out of the box turn it over and check inside. These have been placed there to avoid damage during transportation.

The whisk/ K-Beater is knocking against the bowl. What can I do?

Accepted Answer

You may need to adjust the height of the bowl tool. With the mixer switched off and unplugged, insert the beater or whisk and lower the mixer head. Check the clearance between the tool and the bottom ofthe bowl. Ideally the tool should be almost touching the bottom of the bowl. If the clearance needs to be adjusted, raise the mixer head and remove the tool. Using a suitable wrench, loosen the nut sufficiently to allow adjustment of the shaft. To lower the tool closer to the bottom of the bowl, turn the tool shaft counterclockwise. To raise the tool away from the bottom of the bowl turn the shaft clockwise. Tighten the nut. Fit the tool to the mixer and lower the mixer head. Check its position. Repeat the above steps as necessary until the tool is set correctly. Once this is achieved tighten the nut securely. No adjustment of the dough hook is necessary.

What is planetary action?

While most beaters in a mixer rotate in a circular motion the Kenwood bowl tools move in a 'planetary' way. This means that while the beater is revolving in one direction, the socket turns in the opposite direction making sure all the mixture is picked up from around the side, bottom and centre of the bowl.

What is the difference between a Chef and a Major?

The main difference between the two machines is the size. The Major has a 7 Quarts bowl and the Chef a 5 Quarts bowl. The motor size will also be different for a Major(800 Watts) for a Chef (750 Watts). It is worth noting that the Major isa taller and heavier machine as it can mix larger quantities at one time.

A 3A fuse should be fitted into plug for the A701 and A901 models of Chef.Newer models (post year 2000) will require a 13A fuse.

Why does there seem to be a lot of mixture left on the sides and the bottom of the bowl?

Accepted Answer

The bowl tool may need adjusting. There is a nut located at the top of the K-beater, whisk, dough hook and creaming beater.Using a spanner, loosen this nut and you will then then be able to adjust the length of the shaft up or down. For the best results the attachment should be as close to the base of the bowl as possible without actually touching it. When you have found the required position, tighten the nut back up. The Creaming beater is perfect for mixes that tend to stick to the side of the bowl more and can be purchased separately if it was not included with your pack.

Will my A901 A902 A907 accessories fit the new Chef models?

Many of the A901 accessories including the bowl will fit the current Chef range as there has been very little change to it over the years. The current accessories will also fit the A901, with the exception of the food processor attachment.

There is variation in the speed of the machine. Is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Your mixer is fitted with an electronic speed sensor control that is designed to maintain the speed under different load conditions, such as when kneading bread dough or when eggs are added to a cake mix. You may therefore hear some variation in speed during the operation as the mixer adjusts to the load and speed selected - this is normal.

My stand mixer moves a lot on the kitchen counter when mixing/. Is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Heavy ingredients, particularly dough, will cause your stand mixer to move from side to side and certain kitchen surfaces will allow the mixer to walk slightly across the kitchen counter as a result. This is normal for heavy ingredients. Large professional dough mixers often have large steel stabilising stands surrounding the bowl, a bit like cement mixers, but obviously this is not possible with a domestic machine! Your stand mixer will be fine but it should never be left unattended during the mixing process. This will not be as noticeable with the heavier machines but care should still be taken.

Can I purchase a creaming beater for my Chef or Major?

A creaming beater is designed for cake making. It scrapes the mixture from the sides of the bowl and thoroughly incorporates all of the ingredients. Sadly it negates to need to lick the bowl afterwards! The Chef version can be ordered using part number AT501, and the Major version can be ordered using part number AT502, and are available from our website by clicking here.

I have a pace maker/ other medical implant. Can I still use an induction hob?

The right quantity of water to be put in the steamer basket depends on the type of food you are cooking. Vegetables, eggs, poultry and fish will need different quantity of water and timing will be different also. Check the cooking guide available in the instruction manual here attached.

Why is my unit not allow me to go to an higher speed?

The Cooking Chef is equipped with a safety device that prevents using the stand mixer at a higher speed while the unit is being used for cooking and the temperature reaches over 140F (60C). If temperature cools down lower than that limit the unit will be back to the maximum speed.

Your kitchen machine can deal with very heavy ingredients &ndash; for example bread dough &ndash; and the rotation of these types of ingredient can tighten the bowl into the machine and make it difficult to remove. In these cases extra force in an anti-clockwise direction will be needed to remove the bowl. If you regularly make dough we would recommend the bowl is periodically loosened to avoid over tightening. Alternatively a bowl with handles is available from Kenwood Spares via www.4kenwood.co.uk.

Place the base of the glass bowl into a bowl of warm water. This will allow the water to flush out any debris that may have collected. The bowl has been designed with slots in the base to enable water to flush through.

It will either be: AT956 &ndash; Fits the CHEF range (AT956A or AT956B) AT957 &ndash; Fits the MAJOR range (AT957A or AT957B) KAB956PL - Fits the Chef Sense KAB957PL - Fits the Chef Sense XL If you are having difficulty fitting the attachment to your machine, it may help to check the paddle. Imprinted on the paddle will be either a &lsquo;C' (for Chef), or &lsquo;M' (for Major). This is another useful way to check you have the correct attachment if the box has been disposed of. The AT957 will fit your Cooking Chef.

Which potato peeler attachment will fit my kitchen machine

The AT444 Potato Peeler is suitable for Chef models manufactured after 1976 (A901 and KM models). The AT445 Potato Peeler is suitable for Major models manufactured after 1976 (A907 and KM models). This attachment is larger than the Chef version. The model number of your Chef or Major can be found on the underside of your kitchen machine. This attachment will not fit other models of kitchen machine, such as the kMix. There is currently no potato peeler attachment available for the Chef Sense or Chef Sense XL.

Will the food processor attachment fit my Chef?

The AT640 or AT647 Food Processor attachment will only fit the Titanium models, as these have an additional medium speed attachment point. Models include the KM001, KM002, KM010, KM020, KM030, KMC030, KMC015, KM023, KMC023, KM013, KMC013, KMC010 and KMM020. If your model is not one of the Titanium range, it may be worth considering the AT340 Pro Slicer/ Grater attachment, which has seven discs included, for slicing, grating and julienne effects. The AT337, AT358, AT339 blender and AT320 mill jar set will carry out chopping functions and the AT950 mincer will mince meat and vegetables. These attachments, with the exception of the AT950, fit onto the high speed power outlet. The AT950 uses the slow speed power outlet. The new KAH647 fits on the high speed attachment and this will fit all Chef models produced since 1976. This can be purchased by clicking here . (Stock permitting)

If your Chef or Major model number is an A901,A907 or begins with KM it will fit, as with all attachments except the food processor. If your model number begins with A7 (A701, A701a, A707 etc.) it will not fit. The model can be found on the underside of your Chef.

Can I stand a hot pan on my mixer to mix hot ingredients instead of pouring the content into the bowl?

Our mixers do not allow hot pans or pots to be located under the mixing arm. You should always cook/heat ingredients in a different pan and then pour the content of your vessel into the mixing bowl that comes with the kitchen machine (or any compatible bowl model, glass or stainless steel): the provided KW bowl is the only tool guaranteeing safe and stable fixing by locking the bowl into position to the mixer base. Both the glass bowl and the stainless steel bowl are safe with hot mixtures.

No, we recommend not to heat the bowl (neither glass nor stainless steel) on a naked flame. A suitable pan/vessel should be used instead and the content should be poured into the mixing bowl afterwards: both cold and hot mixtures are allowed into the bowl.

All Kenwood Chefs are designed in the UK and are now made in China at our Delonghi Group factories. They are constructed from a combination of stainless steel, die cast aluminium, food safe materials and BPA free plastics. All parts that can come into contact with food are tested and certified to be BPA free and food safe. Link to BPA statement
