Can I bake soda bread in my bread maker?

As soda bread mix tends to be dry, it doesn\'t knead well in a bread machine. We would not recommend using a bread maker for this type of recipe.

Can I leave the powdered milk out of the recipe?

Accepted Answer

Yes you can- it is there to improve the taste and look of the finished loaf, but can be left out or substituted in some recipes.

Can I make garlic bread in a bread maker?

Accepted Answer

Tests carried out using several different types of garlic mean we would not recommend making garlic bread with your bread maker.If too much garlic was used it would result in the collapse of the bread and a dense doughy texture. Too little garlic resulted in very little noticeable flavour change without the addition of additional spices.Granules, fresh cloves, pastes and pre-prepared garlic were all tested with very similar results.

Can i use the delay timer for all of the programs?

It is recommended that the delay timer is not used with either the dough, jam or gluten free programs. You should not use the delay timer if any perishable ingredients are used in the recipe, ie: milk, eggs, yoghurt etc. The rapid bake does not work with the delay timer.

How do I stop my bread maker mid program?

Press and hold the Start/Stop button (square and triangle button - see below right) for a slow five seconds.If the machine doesn\'t stop, turn it off at the power for at least 12 minutes. Your bread maker has power interruption protection in case the unit is unplugged during operation and will remember the program for at least 8 minutes.

How long does homemade bread last?

Bread made from your bread machine is best eaten on the same day, however if kept in an airtight container will last for 2 to 3 days depending on the type. Most bread types can be kept in the freezer.If the bread is slightly stale it can be used for bread pudding, croutons or baked French toast to save wasting it. Or use a processor to whips up some breadcrumbs for use with one of our delicious recipes!

The program may have been inadvertently started. Press and hold the Stop/Start button for ten seconds to cancel the program. If this is ineffective, turn the bread maker off at the power for twenty minutes and the bread maker will reset.

I am getting poor results from my bread maker. What can I try?

First of all, check the Raid or Eco Bake option haven\'t been accidently selected. This will often have two forward facing triangles on some models.If you are using a program other than this, we recommend the following:The amount of water and yeast required may vary slightly depending on the type and brand of flour used and minor adjustments may be required when a particular brand is first used. If the bread does not rise enough and has a dense texture try increasing the water next time by 15mls (3 teaspoons) and the yeast by half a teaspoon.The recipes included in our book are based on supermarket branded flour such as Tesco and Waitrose etc.For best results warm rather than cold water should be used, as warmer water will activate the yeast quicker on the rapid cycle. However, always be aware that if the water is too hot it will kill the yeast. Ensure the yeast is the last ingredient added to ensure the yeast does not get wet. Also, please ensure you use scales to weigh the flour to obtain the accurate amount. Finally, remember not to open the bread maker lid no matter how tempting it may be.If you are still achieving poor results after following these guidelines please take your unit to your nearest authorised repairer for inspection. I have started the program on my bread maker but nothing happens.

Your bread maker may be pre-heating. The pre-heat feature operates at the start of the wholewheat (30 minutes), wholewheat rapid (5 minutes) and gluten free (8 minutes) settings to warm the ingredients before the first kneading stage begins. During this time there is no kneader action. On selected machines there are also preheat times on other recipes. Please see the guidance in the back of your recipe book for further information on individual machines.If you have checked the program and your selected recipe doesn\'t include a pre-heat phase, there may be a fault with your bread maker and it may require repairing.

I have plugged in my bread maker but nothing has happened. Is it broken?

Kenwood bread makers come with an on/off switch situated under the right hand handle on the BM150 and on the rear of the BM250, BM450 and BM260/BM366.Make sure you plug the appliance in before turning the on/off switch, and always turn it off before unplugging the appliance.

My bread maker does not mix when I press start?

Some programs have a rest period before mixing. Check your timings table, which is in the back of your recipe book, for this information.If this fails to correct the issue please check that the bread pan has been properly inserted into the machine. If having checked these troubleshooting tips the machine still fails to respond we would recommend taking the machine to an authorised repair centre.

My bread maker is quite noisy when it is kneading the dough. Is this normal?

The dough is very heavy and will rock from side to side, so the bread maker will be noisier during the kneading part of the bread making process. The noise will be lower once the kneading stage has completed and the settling and baking process begins.

The kneader may remain in the bread, depending on the type of ingredients used. This is normal for bread makers.Please remember to remove this before slicing your bread.

The kneader is loose on the spindle. Is this normal?

There is space between the kneader and spindle in the bread pan.This is perfectly normal and deliberate, and will not affect the function of your machine.It has been designed in this manner to aid removal after the baking process.

Why do I need to remove the bread pan from the machine before adding ingredients?

We recommend you do this to prevent spillages into the oven chamber.Ingredients that splash onto the heating element can burn and cause smoke.

Although high in gluten it is more easily digested and can be tolerated by some gluten intolerant individuals.Baking with Spelt FlourThe gluten in spelt flour is a different type to the gluten found in wheat flour and has different characteristics when used in baking.Yeasted dough made with spelt flour will rise, ripen and mature more quickly than ordinary wheat flour dough. It tends to produce a firm crust and crumb texture which is open yet dense.Spelt flour is more suited to quick breads or single rise bread recipes. What is artisan dough?

Artisan bread requires a very small amount of yeast due to the longer rising process it is put through. The longer the rise, the more fermentation occurs which means there is a lot more flavour in the final loaf. Yeast uses the sugar to rise so any more than a tiny amount of yeast will mean the dough rises too much over the 3-4 hours\' time period and will then collapse. The smaller the amount of yeast, the longer it takes to use all the sugar which means by the end of the rise there is more flavour left in the dough. Switch off, unplug and allow the sandwich maker to cool down completely.Wipe the outside with a damp cloth and then dry. Wipe the toasting plates with a damp cloth, using soapy water if necessary, then dry thoroughly.Don\'t use abrasive cleaners as they will damage the non-stick coating. Clean the sandwich toaster after each use to maintain a good clean working condition.
