Kenwood launched the first ever Disaster Chef to Kenwood Chef competition in 2012. A dozen hopeless cooks were chosen and put through their paces over a three month training period.
The competition was fierce, with one devoted contender cooking a meal for all of the residents at his hotel when he went on holiday and another writing a rhyming poem one week instead of her regular blog. Then, at the highly anticipated live final last September, Kirsty Pulsakowska from Reading was crowned ‘Kenwood Chef 2012’. Kirsty cooked a three course meal to impress the competition’s four judges, to take the crown.
Kirsty was nominated by her mum following numerous kitchen disasters - which included her not only burning a salad, but also attempting to cook steak and kidney pie with steak flavoured crisps and kidney beans. Kirsty said after winning the title, “I’m over the moon that I have won the Disaster Chef competition to become the Kenwood Chef 2012, it’s a dream come true! Not only have I learnt loads of new cooking skills and recipes but I’ve got confidence in the kitchen that I’ve never had before. I know my family will want to thank Kenwood for turning me from kitchen zero to culinary hero in just three months.”
