FAQs Kitchen Machine

  • I am having difficulty fitting the Flexi Beater into my Chef or Major. All my other bowl tools fit fine.

The shaft design has been updated in the last year or two. It may be that the shaft on your Flexi Beater is a different design to your other bowl tools. Check and see if the shaft to the Flexi Beater is different to your other bowl tools, if it is then contact the Customer Experience Team on 02392 392333 and they can send you out the correct shaft for your Chef or Major.

  • Can I buy spare parts and additional attachments for my Kenwood Chef / Major?

Yes, you can contact our Kenwood Spares Distribution Centre on 0870 241 3653 and purchase parts by mail order, please ensure you have your model number when calling. This can be found on the base of your appliance. Attachments can also be obtained through larger department stores.
  • Can I get a Food Processor for my Chef / Major so I don’t need two separate machines?

Yes, but it’s only available for the KM010, KM020 and KM023 models. For all other models the liquidiser, mincer and slicer and shredder will carry out some of the functions of a food processor.
  • Do I need to remove the splashguard in order to change the bowl tool?

No. The splashguard is attached to the hub, so the bowl tool outlet is easily accessible for changing the tool.
  • Do Kenwood Chef and Major Mixers have a guarantee?

Yes, all our Kitchen Machines have a 12 month guarantee.
  • How do I clean my machine?

Always switch off and unplug before cleaning. Wipe the mixer body and outlet covers with a damp cloth, then dry. Never use abrasives or immerse in water Wash the Bowls, tools and splashguard by hand, then dry thoroughly. Or alternatively, wash in the dishwasher. Never use a wire brush, steel wool or bleach to clean your stainless steel bowl. Use vinegar to remove limescale. Keep away from heat (cooker tops, ovens, microwaves)
  • How many attachments can I use at once?

You can only use one attachment at one time on a Kenwood Kitchen Machine. Please be aware that all the outlets will still spin when the machine is turned on but you should not try to use more than one at any one time as it could overload the motor and break the machine.
  • The bowl is quite big, it is possible to buy a smaller bowl?

No, nor is it necessary as the Kenwood Chef and Major have ‘planetary action’ while in operation. Mixing attachments travel in 2 planes at once – turning whilst travelling round the bowl. This means you can mix the smallest or largest of quantities without need for different size bowls.
  • There is oil leaking from the head of my mixer, is it faulty?

Oil can be expected to leak from new machines for the first 2 or 3 uses. It is caused by the difference in temperature between the customers kitchen and the factory where the gearbox was assembled. The temperature difference causes the grease to expand and overflow. The grease we use is vegetable based and completely safe. Your Chef / Major should not require lubricating in its normal lifetime.
  • There is variation in the speed of the machine, is this normal?

Yes, this is normal. Your mixer is fitted with an electronic speed sensor control that is designed to maintain the speed under different load conditions, such as when kneading bread dough or when eggs are added to a cake mix. You may therefore hear some variation in speed during the operation as the mixer adjusts to the load and speed selected - this is normal.
  • What are the maximum capacities for my machine?

The maximum capacities are as follows. Do not attempt to exceed these as it could seriously damage your machine. Chef Shortcrust pastry - 680g flour Fruit cake mix - 2.72kg total mix Stiff bread dough - 1.36g flour Soft bread dough - 1.3g flour Egg whites - 12 Major Shortcrust pastry - 910g flour Fruit cake mix - 4.55kg total mix Stiff bread dough - 1.5kg flour Soft bread dough - 2.6kg flour Egg whites - 16
  • What is a Kenwood Kitchen Machine?

The Kenwood kitchen machine is a stand mixer with a difference. All models come with 3 bowl tools – a whisk, k-beater and dough hook. These allow you to do all the tasks you would expect from a mixer, from whisking egg whites to making dough. The unique planetary mixing action gives you perfect results every time. With additional power outlets and an amazing range of attachments, the mixer becomes a kitchen machine as you can tailor it to your personal needs. With attachments for blending, chopping, slicing and mincing, as well as making ice-cream, pasta and juice, there are no limits to what you can achieve.
  • What is pulse?

The pulse button is used when you need short bursts of power at the optimum speed. This is controlled by the user which means you control how long the machine is run for. It is a useful way of avoiding over processing. For example, it can be used to fold fruit into a cake mixture at the end of processing.
  • What is the difference between a Chef and a Major?

The Major is a larger machine in both motor size and bowl capacity.
  • What is the Flexi Beater?

Unique to Kenwood, the flexible shape of this new bowl tool fit the profile of the Kenwood bowl perfectly ensuring that all soft mixtures are mixed to perfection, reducing the need to scrape down the bowl every couple of minutes.
  • What should I do if the machine seems to take some time to reach speed when first switched on?

This is normal so you should not try to do anything about it. Your mixer has been fitted with a ‘soft start’ feature to minimise spillage. However if the machine is switched on with a heavy mixture in the bowl such as bread dough, you may notice that the mixer takes a few seconds to reach the selected speed.
  • What should I do if the mixer stops during operation?

If for any reason power to the mixer is interrupted and the machine stops working, turn the speed switch to the off position, wait a few seconds and then re-select the speed. The mixer should resume operating straight away.
  • What should I do if the whisk/k-beater knocks against the bottom of the bowl or the whisk/k-beater isn’t reaching the ingredients in the bottom of the bowl?

Adjust the height. Here’s how: 1. Unplug. 2. Raise the mixer head and insert the whisk or beater. 3. Hold it, then loosen the nut 4. Lower the mixer head. 5. Adjust the height by turning the shaft. Ideally the whisk/K-beater should be almost touching the bottom of the bowl 6. Raise the head, hold the whisk/K-beater and tighten the nut.
  • Who can I contact if I have any difficulties with my Kenwood Chef / Major or need some additional advice?

You can contact our Kenwood Customer Service Department on 02392 392333 for assistance between 8.30am and 5.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 12.30pm on a Friday. Alternatively, you can write to them at the following address: Kenwood Customer Service New Lane Havant Hampshire PO9 2NH
  • Why does there seem to be a lot of mixture left on the sides and the bottom of the bowl?

The mixing attachment may need adjusting There is a nut located at the top of the K-beater, Whisk and Dough Hook, with a spanner loosen this nut and you will then be able to adjust the attachment up and down the shaft. For the best results the attachment should be as close to the base of the bowl as possible without actually touching. When you have found the required position, tighten the nut back up. The new Flexible beater is perfect for mixes that tend to stick to the side of the bowl more and can be purchased separately if not in pack.
