Week 5 - Spaghetti Vongole

Ioana Popescu Week 5

This week's recipe was a bit of a challenge, starting with the fact that I hadn’t been able to find clams, but luckily in the recipe it said I could use mussels, so first problem sorted.

I was also a bit scared at first that I won't be able to use the Chef Titanium’s attachments exactly as I should. But the video answered all my questions and I managed to finish the recipe successfully.

I didn’t have a rolling pin so I used the wrapping film roll which worked perfectly.

In the end, the recipe was a success and it became my favourite pasta recipe.

I would like to thank Kenwood for this opportunity. It actually made me realise I love cooking and baking. Since the beginning of the competition I have been cooking almost every day (which was a shock for my boyfriend and my friends - and for myself).

I think cooking is my new hobby as I can't stop searching for new recipes and luckily I have the best help: my Kenwood Titanium Chef, which makes me feel like I am in a restaurant kitchen. I really hope I will win the competition and make my pupils proud (they now all call me 'disaster chef' and I've promised them I'll give my best).

Week 4 – Thai Minced Turkey Salad

Ioana Popescu Week 4

Ioana Popescu Week 4

I have enjoyed a lot preparing this recipe, mostly because I like healthy food (don't worry, not more than cakes!).

Again, the mincer attachment has been easy to use and really helpful and the food processor attachment chopped the vegetables in a blink.

I have still made a tiny mistake: pressed the Pulse button for too long and chopped the vegetables a bit too much, but now the lesson is learned, next time press it, release it and check if it's chopped enough.

Anyway the recipe turned out to be almost perfect! All those spices made it so...thai!

Week 3 – Family Friendly Two Way Burger

Ioana Popescu Week 3

Hi! I'm very happy about my progress this week.

Ioana Popescu Week 3

When I first read the recipe, I thought this cooking challenge was going to be pretty hard especially with handling the attachments and getting the desired taste. But the Multi Mill, k-Beater and Food Mincer attachments were so easy to use and again, they did almost all the work and the taste was amazing. The one thing I didn't like about this recipe working with the meat because it was a bit sticky and I had to wash my hands a few times during the mincing process.

They were the best burgers I have ever had and it wasn't just me that said it! I also added some lettuce to make them healthier and some with brie or tomatoes.

Delicious!!!!

Week 2 Banana bread

Ioana Popescu Week 2

I would like to start with the fact that it has been such an easy recipe to make this week - it took me just 10 minutes to make the dough. It certainly helps when you have clear instructions but most of all when you have such great help from the Kenwood Chef Titanium. I have seen food processors before but one that transforms bananas into cream so quickly, never!

The only thing that went slightly wrong was the baking time - I should have left the bread for an extra 5 minutes in the oven. Even though I thought the bread was baking for long enough, the bottom part definitely needed a bit more heat. (I think I am too scared to leave food for too long in the oven from my previous experiences and I prefer to bake it for less time than to turn it into carbon.)

Week 1 – Tuile Biscuits

First mission: complete!

Ioana Cristina Popescu Week 1

I wasn’t too sure what my result would be at the end but I looking back I think I secretly nailed it. After creating star shaped stencils with some cardboard from my Kenwood Chef Titanium box I was ready to start my first week’s recipe.

At first I was afraid that the ingredients wouldn’t get the consistency I needed and that it would be a disaster and split, but after my Kenwood Chef Titanium got going for more than 10 seconds my mixture got so creamy! Amazing!

I have never managed to make a mixture so smooth (and trust me, I have tried a lot!). My Kenwood Chef Titanium is really brilliant, easy to use and kind of makes everything for you.

Another plus for this recipe was that it only needed 4 minutes in the oven, so I was able to stand by the oven to make sure I didn’t burn the biscuits like I usually do with everything. So this was perfect! :)
