Kenwood Disaster Chef 2015 - Terms & Conditions

Kenwood Disaster Chef Competition   

If you are entering our competition it is important to read our terms and conditions: 

  1. By participating in Kenwood’s Disaster Chef Competition, you are deemed to accept these terms and conditions, together with any terms and conditions of any relevant third party.
  2. Kenwood’s Disaster Chef is restricted to residents of the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man aged 18 years or over, excluding employees of Kenwood, their immediate families, or anyone professionally connected to the relevant promotion and excluding any employees, their immediate families or other representatives of any competitors of Kenwood. Proof of eligibility must be provided on request. Any entries that do not meet the criteria will be disqualified.
  3. A person cannot enter the competition more than once.
  4. Kenwood shall not be liable to any entrant or winner or be deemed to be in breach of contract by reason of any delay in performance or any failure to perform any of its obligations in relation to this competition, if the delay or failure was beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to any delay or failure caused by aircraft delay, flight cancellation, strikes, war, civil disorder, or natural disasters.
  5. Any personal data submitted will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and Kenwood’s privacy policy. Any information submitted must be personal and related specifically to the entrant. Any information or material submitted to Kenwood must be true and not infringe the intellectual property, privacy or any other rights of any third party, and will not contain anything which is libellous, defamatory, obscene, indecent, harassing or threatening. Kenwood reserves the right, but not the obligation, to screen, filter and/or monitor information provided and to edit, refuse to distribute or remove such information.
  6. The competition runs from 24 August until the final event on the 28 November 2015. The competition entry period runs from 24 August to midnight on 27 September. 10 Disaster Chefs will be chosen between 28 and 5 October 2015. The Chef Improvement Period for the 10 Disaster Chefs will take place between 12 October and 24 November 2015.
  7. The Disaster Chef final (venue TBC) will take place on 28 November 2015, with the overall winner announced on 28 November 2015. If a participant fails to meet the Minimum Requirements of updating his/her cooking progress, then that Participant will be disqualified from the competition and will no longer be in with a chance of winning the main prize. 
  8. Qualifying entries will be those who have emailed disasterchef@kenwood.co.uk providing each of the mandatory requirements for his/her self or nominee:  his/her full name, date of birth, email address, daytime telephone number, hometown, photograph of him/her and a maximum of 200 words explaining his/her kitchen disaster.
  9. Closing date for entries is 11.59pm on 27 September 2014.
  10. No responsibility is accepted for entries received and proof email being sent will not be accepted as proof of delivery or receipt. No applications will be accepted by agents, in bulk or from third parties.
  11. The 10 Disaster Chefs must be prepared to take part in all publicity relating to the competition, including but not limited to the publication of photographs, names and geographical locations on the internet and in print media.
  12. The overall Disaster Chef winner will also be requested to take part in post-event publicity. The Disaster Chef winner agrees to the use of his or her name, photograph and disclosure of county of residence and will co-operate with any other reasonable requests by or on behalf of Kenwood relating to any post-winning publicity and in promotional material relating to this campaign, following the closure of the competition for a period of 12 months.
  13. The 10 contestants must attend the Disaster Chef (Final venue TBC) on 28 November 2015 where the overall winner will be chosen by the judging panel based on the following criteria:
  1. Cooking techniques
  2. Taste
  3. Progress
  4. Presentation
  1. In the event of any dispute regarding these terms, results or any other matters relating to a Kenwood promotion, the decision of Kenwood shall be final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
  2. Kenwood reserves the right in their reasonable discretion: (a) to disqualify any claimant, competitor or nominee whose conduct is contrary to the spirit of these terms, or the intention of the promotion and to declare as void any or all of their claims or entries based on such conduct; (b) to add to or to waive any of these terms or any on reasonable notice; and/or (c) to cancel the promotion or any part of it at any stage in the event of circumstances beyond Kenwood reasonable control.
  3. Kenwood is not responsible for any problems or malfunctions or failures including, but not limited to, those related to computer on-line systems, computer servers, computer providers or computer equipment. Kenwood is not responsible for software failure of any email or failure of an entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in relation to the promotion.

 


 

Chef Improvement Period (six weeks)

  1. The 10 Disaster Chefs will be required to cook six dishes by following video tutorials during the Chef Improvement period. The tutorial videos will be posted on the Kenwood website each Monday from 12th October - 16th November.
  2. In addition, all Disaster Chefs must agree to update the Disaster Chef team at Clarion Communications on their progress on each dish during the Chef Improvement period. This must include a minimum of 100 words on their experience and at least one image as evidence of their cookery results (per entrant per week).
  3. Copy detailing each of the 10 Disaster Chefs’ cooking progress must be emailed to the Clarion team at kenwoodteam@clarioncomms.co.uk – before 23.59 the following Tuesday during the Chef Improvement Period. The Disaster Chefs agree that any copy/photos/videos submitted for inclusion may be uploaded at Kenwood’s discretion on the Kenwood website as well as and published in other advertising.
  4. In the event that Kenwood considers any submission from the 10 Disaster Chefs during the Chef Improvement Period to be inappropriate it reserves the right to edit or not to publish it.
  5. Kenwood will own all intellectual property rights including but not limited to copyright in copy/emails, photos, videos and other material created by the Disaster Chefs in the course of this cookery competition and therefore will be able to use such material as the Promoter sees fit.
  6. Each of the 10 Disaster Chef finalists must be willing to travel to the confirmed venue (TBC) for the Disaster Chef final. Travel costs for each Disaster Chef to attend the final are included.

 


 

Prizes

  1. The 10 Disaster Chefs will each receive a Kenwood Chef Sense, a Kenwood apron (both to keep) and a weekly delivery of food ingredients, plus recipes for the Chef Improvement Period. Contestants must provide a valid or alternative postal address in order to receive the ingredient hampers on a weekly basis.
  2. In addition, the overall winner, chosen at the Disaster Chef final on 28 November 2015, will receive a two-night stay for two people at Raymond Blanc’s Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons including accommodation, travel (x2), tasting menu on the first evening (x2) and an à la carte dinner on the second (x2), full English breakfasts (x2), a tour of the Le Manoir kitchens (x2), a signed copy of Raymond’s latest book Kew on a Plate, two places for a day’s tuition at the Raymond Blanc Cookery School and a selection of Kenwood’s kitchen appliances to the value of £500.
  3. The prizes are not transferable, may not be re-sold and are subject to availability. Kenwood reserves the right in their reasonable discretion to substitute any such gift, prize or item with a gift, prize or item of equal value. There is no cash alternative.
  4. Failure to claim a gift, prize or other promotional item by the time or in the manner specified for the particular promotion will make any claim invalid.
  5. Kenwood cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrant entering a promotion or as a result of accepting any prize.
  6. Competition prizes must be claimed within six months following the Disaster Chef final and the winning prize must be taken within six months of the final.

 


 

Judging

  1. There are 10 Disaster Chef finalist places to be won. Each case will be judged individually and the winners will have provided the 10 most apt and original reasons for entering. The judging panel consists of: Raymond Blanc OBE, Michelin Star Chef, Author and TV personality; Miranda Gore Brown, Author and Great British Bake Off Finalist; and Martin Johns, Kenwood Development Chef.
  2. The 10 Disaster Chefs will be chosen within 14 days of the promotion closing date. 
  1. Contenders will be notified by phone during the week commencing 28 September 2015.
  2. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  4. If any potential contender is unable to be contacted by Wednesday 30 September, the Promoter will offer the opportunity to contend to a runner-up.
