Indonesian Festive Rice
With the Kenwood Food Steamer, cooking is foolproof - nothing burns and food does not dry out. Perfect results everytime.
1 large onion,peeled & sliced 1x400g can of coconut milk
2 cloves garlic,unpeeled 2.5ml ground tumeric
325g easy cook rice 5ml salt
1 vegetable stock cube dissolved in 200ml hot water
1 hard bolied egg in shell
Place onion rings and unpeeled garlic cloves in the Steamer basket.Fill the inner reervour to the first ring and steam onion & garlic until the indicator light goes off.When cool enough to handle, peel & chop the garlic finely then place in the Steamer bowl with the onions and the rest of the ingredients.Mix together. Refill the inner reservoir to the fourth ring and steam the rice until the indicator light goes out a second time.Serve hot with grilled chicken or fish and decorate wiith traditional marbled egg made by cracking the shell of the hard boiled egg, placing overnight in water colored with a few drops of food colouring then peeling to leave a marbled effect underneath.
