Ingredients

  • 1kg rump steak, cut into 2cm cubes
  • 300g bacon, roughly chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 red onions, quartered
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • Generous amount of salt and pepper
  • Buns, lettuce, mayonnaise and tomato, to serve

Method

  1. Place Food Grinder attachment in the fridge for at lkeast 1 hour before making patties.
  2. Attach the Food Grinder to the SLOW outlet of your Kenwood kitchen machine. Make sure you have inserted the large die.
  3. In a large bowl combine steak, bacon, garlic and onion. Season mixture generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Using the variable speed control, place on medium speed.
  5. Add meat mixture to the tray and slowly grind the meat.
  6. Once meat has been ground, remove the large die and replace with the small die. Repeat process.
  7. Using your hands, stir through the tomato sauce and egg yolk.
  8. Form mixture into 8-10 patties. Press cheese into the centre of each meat patty so it is fully enclosed.
  9. Place in refrigerator for 15 minutes.
  10. Place a large frypan over medium heat. Lightly oil pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until cooked to desired temperature.
  11. Serve on burger buns with tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise.
